From Classic Landscapes to Urban Art
Heather S. Cleary
Heather S. Cleary's artwork is influenced by where she is. Whether she be in the Muskoka / Haliburton region where she grew up, or in the West-end Toronto neighbourhood of Parkdale where she has resided for the last 15 years. She finds and records life around her in a very natural way.
As of late Heather has become quite recognized for her work using white birch bark, her simple motifs and use of Japanese paper leave you with a calming nostalgic feeling of ones relationship with nature.
Heather does not limit herself to just any one medium, her landscape works in watercolour have been compared to Doris McCarthy's and her "Boy's First Glimpse" series have shocked some with her evocative nudes framed in Victorian era window frames.
In the recent past mixed media pieces have been at the forefront for Heather, her lastest pieces, casually named "Ads Gone Wrong" are reminiscent of 'Mad Magazine', she speaks of social and political issues through the 'space-staring' models and 'dumbed-downed' taglines of a 1969 Sears / Simpsons catalogue.
Collectors of Heather's artwork are often amazed by her diversity and await to see "just what?" she will do next.
